David M. Smith
TUPELO - David M. Smith, 69, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after a lengthy illness. An Anderson, South Carolina native, he was born June 18, 1937, to the late Albert and Essie McKee Smith. He served in Guam during a tour of duty in the Air Force in the 1950s. He had worked in food service management for many years and retired after 20 years with Swift, Inc. An avid sports fan, he was an especially devoted fan of the Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sanctuary Hospice House with the Rev. Randy Gillespie officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Wanda Hattaway Smith of Tupelo; one daughter, Tammy Knight and her husband, Ricky, of Piedmont, S.C.; three step-children, Michelle Wilson and Douglas Knight Jr., both of Tupelo, and Melissa Kingsley of Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Kenneth Smith of Anderson, S.C.; two sisters, Carolyn Bannister of Anderson and Ruth Timmerman of Greenville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Brittany and Matthew Knight, both of Piedmont; six step-grandchildren, Russell Fowler, Rachel Fremion, Austin Kingsley, Naomi Kingsley, Brock Banks and Alishia Banks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Michael, Anthony and Jacquelyn Smith; and two brothers, Alvin and Harold Smith.
