David Dennis "Dent" Schumpert passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 at his home due to a tragic accident. He was born February 25, 1934 in Itawamba County to Coy and Retha Tindall Schumpert. After his high school graduation, Dent served his country in the National Guard. The majority of Dent's working career was spent as a punch press operator for Rockwell Industries. Since his retirement he could be found working his farm and spending time with family and friends. He loved a good conversation with his Saturday morning coffee group, often talking about his pink and black antique car. Active in his community, Dent was a member of the Itawamba County Farm Bureau Board. Dent found much enjoyment supporting his grandson's baseball games at East Union High School, never missing a game. He was a faithful member of Evergreen Methodist Church and regularly attended the men's club on Sunday mornings.
Dent leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Wanda Schumpert; his step-son, Nathan Dillard; seven grandchildren, Drew Dillard, Will Dillard, Bailee Phillips, Brendan Dillard, David Wong, James Wong, and Trevor Patterson; his great-granddaughter, Ivy Phillips; two brothers Milton Schumpert (Betty) and Tommy Schumpert (Lura) both of the Evergreen community; and four sisters Jean Schumpert of the Evergreen community, Marcell Brown (Thomas) of the Greenwood community, Frances Parker and Strattie Duvall both of Tupelo; 12 nieces, one nephew, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Sarah Sunshine Dye Schumpert; his parents, Coy and Retha Schumpert; two brothers, Dorsey Lee (Dee) Schumpert and Dolan Schumpert, a nephew Tim Schumpert; two sisters-in-law, Doris Schumpert and Charlene Schumpert, and two brothers-in-law, Ivy Duvall and W.L Parker.
Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo. Services celebrating Dent's life will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Bubba Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Michael Plunkett, Anthony Patterson, Richard Beyer, Danny Chumney, Jonathan Craig, David Parker, Robert Teague, Kary Parker, Ricky Reynolds, Danny Bailey, Jim Barber, and Fred Pannel.
Barry Morris will serve as honorary pallbearer.
