David “Davey” Michael Riley
Saltillo- David Michael Riley, 42, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Saltillo on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
David was born in Columbus on August 3, 1981; he is the son of Kim Riley. Because his favorite uncle was named David, “Little David” was his family nickname even when he reached adulthood. He graduated from Saltillo High School in 1999. David joined the National Guard and went to Advanced Individual Training School in Baltimore, Maryland. He served his country in Iraq from 2007 until 2009 as a combat soldier and mechanic.
His best friend was his younger brother, Chad. With eleven years difference in their ages, Kim often threatened to “call David” when Chad wasn’t toeing the line. He also helped raise his younger sister, Raquel.
David’s beautiful daughter, Marley Marie, was born in 2006. While serving in Iraq, he would call and sing to her as often as he could. Marley shares his sense of humor, his infectious smile, and taste in music.
He met and married his wife, Kelly Joyner Riley in 2016. They would have celebrated their seventh anniversary November 19. Together they did retail and marketing in the hemp and cannabis business.
David loved his family, music, the Grateful Dead band, going to concerts, traveling, and playing Fortnite with a big circle of friends. David had a huge heart which quickly drew others to him. He was a child of God who will be tremendously missed, but his family and friends have joy in knowing he is at peace.
Those left to cherish his memories in addition to his mother, daughter, and wife are his siblings, Chad and Raquel Owen; grandparents, Harry and Linda Culpepper and Natalie Riley; nephew, Kane Richey; in-laws, Sammie and Allison Joyner; aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends too numerous to count.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Tony Owen; uncle, Barry Riley; cousins, Barry Austin Riley, and Matt Riley; grandfather, Butch Riley; great-grandparents, Carl and Marjorie Kingsley, and Lawrence David and Zora Riley; and his good buddy, P. J. Jones.
