David Frederick Chapman

June 10, 1942 — March 31, 2017

David Frederick Chapman

Plantersville, formerly of Gulfport - David went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 31, 2017, after a short but valiant fight against cancer. He was at home surrounded by his loving wife and children.

David was born in Cook Co., Illinois, on June 10, 1942, to David Franklin Chapman and Joyce Eileen Taylor. Very soon after birth, his family moved to Florida where he grew up playing in the woods, riding bikes, playing with friends, and eating tree ripened oranges plucked straight from the trees.

Always the adventurer, David had his mother sign for him to join the Navy at seventeen which took him several new places. He settled in California, where he pursued many things from plumbing to construction, helping others be fit, Forestry Camp, and building custom motorcycles. Ultimately he trained and earned a position as a deep sea diver with McDermott where he worked incident free for over 20 years.

Once retired from diving, David pursued his passion for helping others live a healthy life style.  He owned a health food restaurant and fitness center. He also sold fitness equipment, and ultimately developed his own line of hydraulic fitness equipment which was private labeled and sold worldwide. His passion for fitness resulted in many people opening and growing their own fitness businesses and others starting a healthy and fit lifestyle.

David never met a stranger, and was always willing to discuss any topic. His favorites were a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, fitness, and politics. He was generous with the wisdom he gained from his vast life experiences, and relished the opportunity to learn as well.

David was active his whole life. He cycled, worked out and hiked into his early 70's and often lent his time, knowledge, and abilities to develop equipment for fitness competitions. He loved people, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a generous employer and loyal friend. He attended Cross Pointe Ministries in Tupelo, Mississippi, where he served as a member of the security team and an enthusiastic greeter. The members of his church were like his extended family.

David is survived by his wife, Heidi Lynn Cole-Chapman of Plantersville, formerly of Biloxi, Mississippi; children, Aaron David Chapman of Vancouver, Washington and Stephen Alexander Chapman and Lilly-Anne Korynne Chapman of the home; step-sons, Thomas Colby Parker and Devin Vincent Parker both of Tupelo, Mississippi, and a precious grandson, Rowen Wilder Parker.

David was preceded in death by his father, David Franklin Chapman of Chicago, Illinois; mother, Joyce Eileen Taylor of Gulfport, Mississippi.; sisters, Diana “Dee” Rose Chapman and Helaine Alissia Hernandez Chapman of Eros, Louisiana.

Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. A gathering to commemorate his life will follow at the family home between 5 and 7 p.m. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. and John 18:35-38 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?” Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. “
