Tupelo - Darrell Evans Beard, 81, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1936 in Kinmundy, Illinois, the son of Frank and Wilma Beard. A husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, he was a faithful Christian who spent 60 years preaching the gospel, serving churches full time in 6 different states, including the East Main Church of Christ in Tupelo. Even though he was retired, he still spent his days studying and preparing sermons and Bible class lessons. He truly loved preaching.
Mr. Beard is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Betty, of Tupelo; four children, Jeff Beard of Jackson, Tennessee, Deena Sadler (Gregg) of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, Eileen Beard of Nashville, Tennessee and Kevin Beard (Jan) of Harrisburg, Arkansas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean Beard (Carolyn) of Piedmont, Alabama; two sisters, Marilyn Miller of Salem, Illinois and Cheryl Book (Rich) of Cisne, Illinois; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at East Main Church of Christ with his grandsons, Justin Beard and Jason Sadler, officiating. Jonathan and Jeremy Beard will lead the music during the ceremony. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Beard, Justin Beard, Jeremy Beard, Jason Sadler, Kelly Beard and Glen Beard.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday, August 26 at East Main Church of Christ.
