Dariel McCoy

June 20, 1923 — January 1, 2011

Tupelo - Dariel Funderburk McCoy, 87, died January 1, 2011 at Northeast Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness. She was known as the blonde haired flashy forward, a standout basketball player for East Tupelo, Tupelo (All Big Eight) and Corinth High Schools. In addition to basketball she also loved tennis and was an avid sports fan. She also enjoyed crochet and ceramics. Her greatest source of pride was her sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and spent most of her married years in Tupelo, and New Orleans, LA. She also spent a few years in Hendersonville, TN. She was a faithful follower of Christ and was a member of East Heights Baptist Church. She loved reading, studying and teaching the Bible and always enjoyed an opportunity to share her faith.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Jason Marlin officiating.

She is survived by five sons, Elvis A McCoy, Jr. (Cheryl), Metairie, LA; Dennis McCoy (Debbie), Knoxville, TN; Randy McCoy (Janis), Tupelo, MS; Tim McCoy (Beverly), Macon, GA and Terry McCoy (Kelly), Hendersonville, TN; 11 grandchildren, Amy Harris (Rob), Monica McCoy, Avery McCoy, Wynter Manis (Bo), Autumn Romines (Donnie), Brian McCoy (Lori), Meredith McCoy, Molly McCoy, Kelsey McCoy, Kassidy McCoy and Jesse McCoy; eight great grandchildren, Jackson and Sawyer Harris, Maese Manis, Landen Manis, Ethan Romines, Anna, Katelyn and Miller McCoy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wesley and Ava F. Funderburk; and her husband of 59 years, Elvis A McCoy.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Palmer, Gwin Berryhill, David Mears, Charlie Williamson, Jimmy Swann and Nick Humber.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2011, 5-7p.m. at the funeral home.
