Saltillo ? Charles Daniel Mears, 67, died Friday, August 3, 2012, at his home in Saltillo. He was born in Lee County on March 5, 1945, to the late Charles Willard and Geneva Scruggs Mears. A 1963 graduate of Mooreville High School, he then went on to attend The University of Mississippi. Over the years, he pastored several churches in Prentiss and Lee County. He worked for the County Extension for many years and was currently a sales consultant with the Helena Chemical Company. He was an avid reader and collector of guns and tractors and enjoyed trading cows and horses.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Faith Baptist Church in Saltillo with Dr. Marvin Murphy officiating. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Diane Coker Mears of Saltillo; two sons, Randy Mears of Saltillo and Tracy Mears (DeeDee) of Molton, Alabama; one brother, David E. Mears (Vicky) of Tupelo; one nephew, Kevin Mears of Tupelo; six grand-children, Rick, Jake and Katie-Beth, Jenny, Rebecca and Anna Claire Mears; in laws, Alvis and Dorothy Coker of Saltillo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 4- 8 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Saltillo Funeral Home.
