DAN HESTER

Tupelo " DANIEL LEX HESTER, Sr., 83, died Thursday, August 9, 2007, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born June 6, 1924 in the Pine Grove community near Nettleton to the late Claude Mitchell and Latchepelle Monaghan Hester. He graduated from Nettleton High School in 1943. A long time resident of Tupelo, he was the owner of Dan Hester Motor Company and Little Kar City, a franchise dealer of Simca, Toyota, Sunbeam, and AMC. In 1966, won the Simca Award as national sales leader and in 1969, was the American Motors district champion in sales. He was a charter member of East Heights Civitan Club and president of the Dale Carnegie Class of 1958. As a world record holder, he was well known for his skeet shooting and was a charter member of the Tupelo Gun Club. He was the Mississippi state skeet shooting chapion for 13 years and a member of the 1965 five man team who won the national championship for 20 gauge skeet shooting. He was also an avid quail hunter and enjoyed playing dominoes and checkers. He had been a faithful member of East Heights Baptist Church since 1956, where he served as a deacon and taught ten year olds in Sunday School for many years.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at East Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Glyn Wiygul and Rev. Jason Marlin officiating. Danny Hester will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Willene Hester of Tupelo; a daughter, Nena Lowe and husband, Lacey, of Tupelo; three sons, Danny Hester and wife, Betty, Mitch Hester and wife, Susan, and Mike Hester and wife, Gail, all of Tupelo; ten grandchildren, Lex Hester and wife, Kimberly, Len Hester and wife, Christina, Jenny Duncan and husband, Scott, Mary Stewart Rhea and husband, Jon Paul, Allie Hester, Amy Hester, Lacey Lowe, Moosey Lowe, Hester Lowe, and Nate Hester; a sister, Claudine Gann of Memphis; a brother, Don Hester of Tupelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Herman Hester; and three sisters, Irma Hester, Stella Teem and Gay Chism.

Pallbearers will be Lex Hester, Len Hester, Lacey Lowe, Moosey Lowe, Nate Hester, Jon Paul Rhea, Scott Duncan, Glyn Hester, Lynn Hester, and special nephew Kenny Gann

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.
