DALTON LACKEY, JR. Tupelo - Dalton Eldridge Lackey, Jr., died suddenly Thursday night, March 26 at his residence. He was born in Tupelo on Feb. 15, 1949 to Dalton Lackey, Sr. and his wife Fannie Lee "Rustie" Walton Lackey. Mr. Lackey attended Lawhon School through ninth grade, graduated from Tupelo High School and attended Itawamba and Northeast Junior Colleges. He never married but loved his nieces and nephews and great nephews. For the past seven years he has been the chief caregiver for his mother, who is now 96. Besides his smile, and loving ways, he is remembered as a bowler, who won a number of awards, and for his work at Lackey's Grocery, his family's business in East Tupelo. He worked at the Zoo from the mid-1990's to the mid-2000's where he had many friends. He loved music and listening to music and was generally quiet except when talking about favorite subjects like football and other sports. Preceding Mr. Lackey in death was his father. Survivors, besides his mother, include a brother, Jody Lackey and his wife Kathryn of Saltillo; a sister, Lettie McNeece and her husband Michael of Mooreville; two nephews, D.K. Kelso, III and his wife Jessica of Memphis and Joseph Lackey of Tupelo; a niece, Katie Harlow and her husband Trey of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two step-nieces Lindsay Stacks and Carrie and her husband Scott of Saltillo; two step-nephews Andy McNeece and his wife Courtney of Taylor and Chris McNeece and his wife Sarah of Renton, Washington; two great-nephews, Bo and Everette Harlow of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and many more great step-nephews and a great step-niece. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home, Tupelo, with the funeral beginning at 3 p.m. Bro. Jimmy Henry, pastor of Auburn Baptist Church, will officiate at the funeral and at the graveside service, following at Lee Memorial Park, Verona. Pallbearers will be Jody Lackey, D.K. Kelso III, Joseph Lackey, Mike McNeece, Trey Harlow, and Trey Lyons of Mooreville. Expression of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
