D Leon Maynard

July 28, 1928 — March 5, 2009

Belden - Dooksie Leon D.L. Maynard, 80, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at his residence after a sudden illness. A Williamson, WV native, he was born July 28, 1928 to Homer C. and Allie Seale Maynard. In 1945 he graduated from Perkinston Jr. College High School in South Mississippi. He served in the US Airforce from 1949-1952, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. After his military service, he then attended Georgia Tech and Memphis State College where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the school of business administration. Earlier in his life he worked with his father's road construction business, Maynard and Sons Asphalt Company. He later was self-employed until his retirement. He was an avid reader and a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.

Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Mike Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jean Gardner Maynard of Belden; one daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Maynard Garrett and husband, Phillip, of Munford, Tenn.; one son, David C. Maynard and wife, Lula, of San Antonio, Tex.; one brother, John H. Maynard and wife, Sheila, of Longmont, Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
