Cy Williams

November 11, 1955 — December 5, 2015

CyWilliams, 60, died peacefully in his home Saturday, December 5, 2015. Cy made his entrance into this world November 11, 1955, in the red hills of Union, Newton County, Mississippi. The son of parents with farming backgrounds, he realized early he wanted something different in his life. When exposed to television as a young boy, comedy became his great companion. The characters lived in his head and his voice. He left home at 17 to pursue his education and see the world. He began teaching speech and theater in the Mississippi community college system at the age of 22. He taught a total of 38 years, sharing his laughter and love of the stage. He proposed to his best friend, soul mate and love of his life, Betty Moore, by proclaiming, "I've just been Ricky looking for my Lucy all my life." When their daughter, Lauren Lee, was born, he fell in love again. She eventually brought home her first boyfriend, Eric Smith, who was riding a skateboard at the young age of 12. A decade and a half later that little boy became his much loved son-in-law. Cy was often heard to note, "I'm living the life I dreamed of." He traveled extensively, always wanting to see more of the world, making memories and having new stories to share.

A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. at The Orchard in Tupelo where Cy was a faithful member. His beloved small group family, Empty Nesters, will host the service. A visitation will be held 1:30 - 3:15 prior to the service.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Betty Moore Williams of Fulton; children, Lauren Smith (Eric) of Fulton; and his mother, Faye Williams of Newton County.

He was preceded in death by his father Clyde Williams.

Cy requested memorials be made as gifts of love in his memory to The Orchard, PO Box 3216, Tupelo, MS 38803.
