Mr. Curtis Floyd, Jr.

July 9, 1927 — February 20, 2015

CURTIS E. FLOYD Curtis E. Floyd, Jr., 87, died at his home on February 20, 2015. He was born in Drew, MS, on July 9, 1927, to parents, Bertie Kitchens Floyd and Curtis E. Floyd, Sr. He graduated from Drew High School and served two years in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Floyd was an employee of Southern Bell, South Central Bell, and BellSouth for 40 years, retiring on October 1, 1986. He was a member of East Heights Baptist Church in Tupelo. As long as his health permitted he enjoyed hunting, fishing, "puttering" in his workshop, and spending time with the male members of his family and his buddies at deer camp. He was a true Southern gentleman with a ready smile and an outgoing personality. He loved God, his family, and his friends. Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cathy Floyd, of Tupelo; 3 daughters, Toni Harris (Bob) of Holcomb, MS; Martha Brown and Patricia Dorsey (Cecil) of Ramer, AL; 2 stepsons, Shay Davenport (Angela) of Brandon, MS; Chase Davenport of Houma, LA; 1 stepdaughter, Tracy Nichols (Dennis) of Mooreville, MS; 6 grandchildren, Nanette Brown, Ramer, AL., Bryan Harris (Cricket), Holcomb, MS., Brad Harris (Brooke), Mobile, AL., Leigh, Lauren, and Curtis Dorsey of Ramer, AL; two step-granddaughters, Sarah Davenport, Brandon, MS, and Sydney Davenport, Houma, LA; 3 great grandsons, Jonathan Brown, Easton Harris, and Maddox Harris; two sisters-in-law; Ruth Stanford and Jo Haas (Wayne); one brother-in-law, Harold Wood (Marjorie). He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Thomason Floyd; his parents; his sister, Hortense Floyd Cunningham; his brother-in-law, Johnny Stanford. A private memorial service for Mr. Floyd will be held at a later date. There will be no public services. Because he had a passion for feeding the hungry, in lieu of flowers and food, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army Food Bank, 527 Carnation St., Tupelo, MS 38801. W. E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
