Auburn - Curtis Eugene Gentry, Jr., 91, died Monday, December 1, 2008, at his residence in the Auburn Community after an extended illness. A native of the Beech Springs Community, he was born November 26, 1917 to Curtis Eugene and Lena Mae Hill Gentry, Sr. He was the widower of Lucille Gentry whom he married Aug. 19, 1939. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends and fishing.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Mr. Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
Survivors include his sister, Betty Sue Newcomb of the Auburn Community; three nieces, Martha Ann Reed, Rebecca Sue Cook and husband, Mike, and Regina Ann Smith and husband, Mike; two nephews, Robert P. Reed, Jr. and Jerry Curtis Reed; two great-nieces, Shannon Marie Cleveland and Shawndra Melina Rogers; and two great-nephews, Jeramie Michael Cook and Bradley Michael Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Allie Lucille Gentry who died June 23, 1996; a sister, Katie Ruth Reed; and two brothers-in-law, James Olen Newcomb and Robert P. Reed Sr.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
