CORRINE REED

Tupelo - CORRINE REED, 98, died Monday, November 19, 2007, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Itawamba County October 2, 1909, to the late Luther and Mary Lula Weaver Reed. She was a longtime resident of Tupelo. A graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School, she then attended Blue Mountain College before graduating from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1936 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She completed her graduate work at Fresno State in California. She taught elementary school at Mooreville from 1930 to 1935 and at Church Street Elementary from 1936 to 1945. She then began her 43 year career as manager and buyer for Reeds Department Store, retiring in 1988. In addition, she worked with the Girl Scouts throughout the Northeast Mississippi area for many years. She was a member of Gloster Street Church of Christ.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fulton Cemetery with Minister Joe Connell officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her two sisters, Blanche Reed Strain of Tupelo and Murriel Reed Scott of Jackson; her nieces, Dorothy Corrine Strain of Jackson, Lisa Scott Magee and husband, Kenneth Regan Magee, of Ridgeland, Ida Gilliland Lambert of Apopka, Fla., and Betty Ott McMillon of Memphis, Tenn; several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Varnell Reed Gilliland, Ruthallen Reed Ott, and Lucile Reed.

There will be no visitation.
