Connie Kennedy
Pontotoc- Connie Kennedy was born March 14, 1958 to Ottis and Virginia Kennedy. She passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was reared in Furrs, Mississippi. She graduated from Pontotoc City School with the Bicentenal Class of 1976. She continued her education at Itawamba Junior College and the University of Mississippi. She had a long career in security and law enforcement; she began her career as a security officer at McRae’s Department Store, and then went to Verona Police Department as a Dispatcher and Jailer. When Lee County 911 Dispatch began operations, she was one of twelve individuals entrusted to initiate the program. She also worked as a Dispatcher and Jailer at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Connie retired after many years in law enforcement at Pontotoc County 911 Dispatch. For over 40 years, she was a member of Furrs Baptist Church and at the time of her death she was a Church clerk.
She leaves behind a family that loved her dearly including her brother, Byron Kennedy and his wife, Licia Hudson Kennedy, two nephews, Reaf Kennedy and his wife, Aleatha, Zachary Kennedy and his wife, Carrie; and great-niece and nephews, Connor, Haley, and Nora Kennedy, and Jeremiah Barrett.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Wesley Earl Hutcheson, Emmaline Hutcheson, Reaf Kennedy, and Lora Kennedy.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Furrs Baptist Church with Bro. Joseph Faulkner, and Bro. Steve Cohea officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
