Col. D. Liles

Saltillo Lt. Col. Robert David Liles, Jr., Ret., 75, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Topeka, Kansas, he was born February 27, 1936, to Robert David and Frances D. Creel Liles. He proudly served his country 26 years in the United States Army with two tours in Vietnam. He was a 32 degree Mason in the Camp Knox Lodge 909 in Radcliff, Ky. and a Shriner at the Moolah Lodge in St. Louis, Mo. He enjoyed golf and fishing, but all his girls and grandchildren were the lights of his life.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Anne Carl Liles of Saltillo; two daughters, Sandra M. Liles and Kimberly A. Liles, both of Saltillo; three sisters, Carol D. Liles of Ontario, Calif., Nancy D. Kerr (Bill) of Johnstown, Penn., and Donna M. Carl of Saltillo; his sister-in-law, Mildred Beran (Eldon) of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Robert Carl (Connie) of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Robert M. Liles (Brooke) of Springfield, Mo., Meghan A. Davis and Connor E. Davis, both of Saltillo; several nieces and nephews and a special friend Jan Starling.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Saltillo Fire Department; the North Mississippi Medical Center Ambulance Service; Robert M. Liles, Connor Davis, Col. Ted Fichtl, Bill Williams, and Dr. Ken Harvey.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the J.R. Gold Tour C/O Don Hershfield of the Natchez Trace Golf Club in Saltillo.
