CLYDE M. MORGAN Tupelo - Clyde Mitchell Morgan, 91, died peacefully at his home, Thursday, August 20, 2015. He was born in Lee County on January 6, 1924, to Joseph Whewell Morgan and Jewell Stevens Morgan. Clyde was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the 5th Air Force Service Command from June 23, 1943 until January 1, 1946. He qualified as a marksman on the M1 Carbine and also on the Thompson Machine Gun. Clyde was in Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Mindoro, Mindanao, Leyte, and Luzon all in the Philippines. He was also in Okinawa and Shaw Air Force Base in Tokyo. His decorations and citations included the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal WWII, and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with one Silver Service Star. Clyde was employed with Mid South Manufacturing and Bluebell Manufacturing. He was also a master in the finance business, affectionately known as Clyde "Money" Morgan, for over forty years including Tower Loan Finance, Personal Finance, City Finance, Money Mart, Beswa Finance and North Mississippi Finance. He was a member of Mooreville United Methodist Church. He loved to travel, attend car races and watch sports on television. His main joy was working in his yard and spending time with his family. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, in The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues, with Rev. Robert McCoy, Rev. Sammy Washburn, and Rev. Abe Zimmerman officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Patterson (Carl) of Auburn Community and Teresa Easley (Bob) of Tupelo; one grandson, Mitch Patterson (Laurie); two granddaughters, Amy Brownlee (Jeff) and Amanda Sewell (Ryan); one step-grandson, Bobby Easley (Stephanie); five great-grandchildren, Seth Patterson, Kyle Patterson, Jared Brownlee, Maggie Brooke Brownlee, and Reid Sewell; two step-great-grandchildren, Greyson Easley and Evie Easley; one sister, Virginia Gillentine; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Opal Gregory Morgan; one infant son; one grandson, Matthew Easley; his parents, Joseph Whewell and Jewell Stevens Morgan; and one brother-in-law, Arvis Gillentine. Pallbearers will be Albert Collins, Bill Morgan, Barry Jenkins, Kenneth Pearson,, Randy Pearce, and Rick Pearce. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Collins, Mac Gregory, Neal Gregory, Hugh Gregory, Wayne Washington, Patsy Washington, Bill Pickens, and Dan Ballard. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2015, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
