CLARENCE E. GRIFFIN

Tupelo -- Clarence E. Griffin, 79, died Monday, May 21, 2007, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after a long illness. A Tupelo native and lifelong resident, he was born October 5, 1927 to the late Tracey Nathaniel and Minnie Nash Griffin. He was a 1948 graduate of Mooreville High School and then attended Itawamba Community College. A Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, he served as a Lance Corporal during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.

He owned one of the first realty companies in Tupelo and trained several realtors and brokers in the area. His expertise in the realty field was widely known and respected. He later decided to start his own home building company and was known throughout the area as one of the first premier home builders in Tupelo. He was an avid vegetable gardener and loved his cats, Bo and Mo.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Langerfeld and Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Louise Griffin; their sons, Michael Griffin and Tim Griffin and wife, Patsy, all of Tupelo; three sisters, Elsie Parmer of Mooreville, Dorothy Faye Oliver and Jennie Ray Little, both of Oxford; grandchildren, Ashley Suggs of Birmingham, Ala, Brittany Griffin, Alex Griffin, Kevin Griffin, Jayme Griffin, all of Tupelo; and one great-grandson, Lucas Suggs.

Pallbearers will be his grandson, Alex Griffin; his nephews, Spence Brandon, Tony Brandon, and Ronnie Brandon; and Jimmy Langley and Bill Pennington.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his brother-in-law, Otis Brandon; his nephew Terry Brandon; Sonny Turner, Scotty West, and Cecil Overton.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
