SaltilloClarence J. Cantrell died Monday, May 29, 2006, at his home after an extended illness. A native of Mississippi, he was born January 4, 1925 to the late Clarence and Nola Adderholt Cantrell. He was a truck farmer and owned Cantrells Vegetable market on Court St. for over 50 years, as well as operated a green house and supplied plants to farmers in the surrounding counties. He also owned Court Street Recreation Room for many years. He was a member of our "Greatest Generation, a World War II veteran having fought in France and Germany with General Pattons 3rd Army. He was a member of the forces who relieved the surrounded troops at Bastogne on Christmas Day, 1944.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances R. Cantrell; two daughters, Janice Hartline and husband, Mike, and Carol Shirley and husband, Brad; one son, David R. Cantrell and wife, Joyce; two granddaughters, Brandy Cook and Emily Cantrell, all of Saltillo; two sisters, Ruby C. Sigler of Memphis, Tenn. and Lucy Harden, of Saltillo

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Elder Marshall Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sam Reedy, Jeff "Red White, George White, Jamie Franks, Carson Cook, and Kevin Coward.

Visitation will continue from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
