Mrs. Clara Mae Ellis Black, 78, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024. She was born September 6, 1945 in Lee County, Mississippi to the late William Byron Ellis and Lila Lee Lamb Ellis.
Mrs. Black worked for many years as a seamstress and then became the office manager for the family plumbing business. She enjoyed flowers, puzzles, watching game shows, and her top priority was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Leon Black; seven brothers and sisters; and seven sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina (Tony) McLure, Zina (Jerry) C. Henry; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (David) Payne; brother, James W. “Sonnie” (Jamie) Ellis; sisters-in-law, Helen Gable, Nona Little; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024 at Pegues, Tupelo. Services celebrating Clara’s life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues.
Pallbearers will be Barry Ford, Kirk Henry, Kyle Henry, David Payne, Robbie Payne, and Randy Black.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice, Home Instead, and the staff of Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, North Carolina for the loving care shown to Clara and her family. Pegues Funeral Directors has been entrusted with local arrangements.
