TUPELO - Jessie Christine Jones, 83, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at her residence in Tupelo. She went to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by her family and friends after a brief illness. She was born June 28, 1924 to Willie Marshall Brooks and Elsie Gregory Brooks in Itawamba County. She loved sewing, doing crafts before he eyesight failed her. The joy of her life was taking care of her daughter with Cerebral Palsy. She was the widow of Clovis J. Jones to whom she was married for 55 years until his death in 1998. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Tupelo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Raymond Rooney and Rev. Don McCain officiating and the organist will be her grandson, Chadd Watson. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her three daughters, Joyce Jones of the home, Jean (Charles) Watson and Judith (Don) Long both of Tupelo; one brother, Ames (Ramona) Brooks of Tupelo; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Brooks of Memphis; two special friends and caregivers, Joyce Rowe and Clayton Turner; five grandchildren, Chadd (Amie) Watson of Hattiesburg, Amy (Matt) Wafler of Florence, Ala., Jodi (Tony) Murphy of Covington, La, Linsey (Mike) Palmer of Tupelo and Kylee (Clint) Haley of Tupelo; three great-grandchildren, Aidan Strickland, Jacob Tackett and Lily Watson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Brooks.
Pallbearers will be Michael Brooks, Phillip Brooks, Tim Brooks and Brett Brooks.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo.
