Guntown - Cheryl Diane Brown Nichols, 67, of Guntown, Mississippi went to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Care Unit after a two year courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer. She was born June 5, 1949, to Charles and Bessie Brown of Tupelo, Mississippi. She was a 1967 graduate of Tupelo High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Steve Nichols, in June of 1967 and was his faithful companion for 49 years. She served the Lord in the Gospel ministry with her husband, Steve, for 47 years as the church pianist in Free Will Baptist churches in Fayette, Alabama, Greenwood, Iuka, and Pontotoc, Mississippi and their current ministry in Booneville, Mississippi. She enrolled in the nursing program at Mississippi Delta Junior College in Moorhead, Mississippi in 1980 and received her Associate Nursing Degree in May, 1982. She began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, Mississippi in 1982. In 1984, she was employed with the Mississippi Department of Public Health as an RN with Leflore County Health Department. Cheryl continued that role serving also in Tishomingo and Lee County Health Department. In 2010 she retired from the Lee County Health Department after 27 years of public health service.

Her favorite pass times was reading and in retirement years spending time with her four grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, and taking care of her many beautiful flowers and plants at her home. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always excited about having her extended family in their home at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Nichols of Guntown, formerly of Tupelo; two children, Michael (Michelle) of Belden and Amy Brown of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Meredith and Cooper Brown of Saltillo, Elizabeth Grace and Sadie Bess Nichols of Belden; one sister, Beverly Ford (Jerry) of Sumrall and one brother, Eddie Brown (Janie) of Guntown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bessie Brown of Tupelo.

Pallbearers will be Sam Henderson, Dale Smith, Elmer Murray, Okee McDonald, Billy Tigrett, Billy Jo Garvin, and Brad DeVaughan.

Honorary pallbearer will be Terry Terrell, a North Mississippi Medical Center employee who gave spiritual encouragement to her during her hospital stays.

Visitation will be 5 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Glenn Jones, Bro. Malcolm Garrett, Bro. Jeff Nichols, and Bro. Russell Clouse officiating. Burial will be at Lee Memorial Park.
