Tupelo - Charlye W. Newman, 81, died Friday, November 28, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born in North Mississippi April 4, 1927 to Thomas Jackson and Susan Isabelle Thompson White. She was retired from Peoples Bank where she worked for over 20 years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and giving to others. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Ray Rooney and Rev. Dave Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Grimes and husband, Billy, of Long Beach; one son, Larry Newman and wife, Sue, of Long Beach; six grandchildren, Lu Ellen Redding and husband, Bill, of Florence, Ala., Allison Carver and husband, Clay, of Owings Mills, Md., Bethany Simpson and husband, Jeremy, of Hartselle, Ala., James Murff and wife, Heather, of D'Iberville, Barley Smith of New Albany, and Megan Grimes of Long Beach; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Claire Kathleen McNutt of Tupelo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lenard Newman who died August 17, 1979; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Sunday Fund at Traceway Retirement Village, 2800 West Main, Tupelo MS 38801
