Tupelo - Charlotte A. Shirley Gardner, 68, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia from injuries sustained in a fall at her daughter?s home in Douglasville, Georgia. She was born December 16, 1943, to James Leon and Mary Moss Shirley. She was raised in Tupelo and was a graduate of Tupelo High School. She then went on to Mississippi College where she earned her Bachelor?s degree in Education. She was a retired school teacher and taught art twenty-five years in the public school system in Tuba City, Arizona. She later moved to Mableton, Georgia and taught in a private school for several years. In 2003, she returned to Tupelo after her parents health declined and for several years worked in the call center at BancorpSouth. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. David Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Gay-la Mealer of Carrollton, Georgia and Sadye Morris (Steve) of Douglasville, Georgia; four grandchildren, Lacey Mealer, Bonny Mealer, Dillon Pittman and Madeline Pittman; cousin and best friend, LouAlice Fink of Louisville, Kentucky; cousins, Janice Coleman, Lucy Wiygul, Nina Kitchen, Bob Shirley, Ann Whitfield, Lu Fitzwater, Margie Hollis, Sue Carter, Sarah James, Bonnie Stowers, Bernice Conrad, Ira G. Moss, Kay Moss Burns, Mary

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garland Mack Gardner on March 16, 1993.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2012, at the funeral home.
