CHARLIE HUGHES Tupelo - Charlie Hughes, 80, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after a lengthy illness. A St. Louis, Missouri native, he was born November 12, 1932, to William and Hilda Smith Hughes. For the last 35 years he was a resident of Tupelo and the president of Day Brite Management Club. He enjoyed bowling and loved watching wrestling events with his grandsons. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall and Father Henry Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Hughes, Kathy Jones and Sue Hawkins (Mike) all of Tupelo; one son, Robert Hughes of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Adam Hughes, Dana Jones, Sonya Watkins and Wesley and Scotty Hawkins; four great-grandchildren, Kylie and Amber Coggins, Joey Stephens and Mason Jones; one sister, Jane Stevens of Norwood, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores Hughes; one daughter-in-law, Julie Hughes; one son-in-law, Joe Jones; a special grandson, Matt Hughes and special sister-in-law, Mary Buss. Pallbearers will be Robert and Adam Hughes, Wesley, Scotty and John Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be his brother-in-laws, Tom, Ray, Jim and Rich Buss. Visitation will be 5 - 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at the funeral home.
