Charlie Aycock

January 19, 1920 — April 16, 2009

Tupelo - Charles F. Charlie Aycock, 89, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks. A Shawnee, Oklahoma native, he was born January 19, 1920, to Frederick and his beloved mother, Madeline Bowen Aycock. He graduated in 1938 from La Porte High School in La Porte, Texas,

He was a veteran of the United States Navy. During World War II, Chief Petty Officer Charlie Aycock served on the lead ship of her class of heavy cruisers, the USS Pensacola, nicknamed the "Grey Ghost" by Tokyo Rose.

In 1943, he married Georgia Peary Aycock. He continued his education at the University of Houston graduating with a degree in journalism. A master plumber, he spent many of his years working in construction including his own business, Mes-Tex Steel Building in Houston, Texas. He married Cynthia (Cinnie) Farrall on June 12, 1980 in the Epicopal Church. After retirement in 1981, he moved to Tupelo. He became very active in the Tupelo Rotary Club, Meals on Wheels, various other community activites and was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He was known for his love of people and kindness in sharing the fruits of his garden and his homemade breads and preserves. He and his wife spent many happy years traveling extensively throughout the world and loved living in Tupelo.

Services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Ray and Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Park Cemetery at Lawndale in Houston, Texas. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Cynthia Aycock; his children, Sandy Dossett and husband, Rudy, of Tupelo, Bob Shannon and wife, Ann, of Baton Rouge, Louisanna, Dan Shannon and wife, Gail, of Houston, Texas, Jerry Shannon and wife, Amy, of Houston; Sally Theodosis and husband, Mike, of Austin, Texas and Carol Willis and husband, David, Houston; grandsons, Rudy Dossett III and wife, Alison, Mike, Stephen, David, Greg and Brian Shannon, Parker Willis, Alex, Andy and Charlie Throdosis; grandaughters, Noel Dossett Russell and husband, Bo, Kate, Lauren, Suzanne and Lisa Shannon and Cindy Theodosis; great grandsons, Hayes, Claude, and Tyler Dossett; great grandaughters, Maddie and Georgia Russell,

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia Peary Aycock in 1977; his parents; two sisters, Jewell Billy and Velva Pepper; three brothers, Leroy, Kenneth and Clarence Aycock

Pallbearers will be Rudy Dossett Jr, Rudy Dossett III, Bob Shannon, Dan Shannon, David Willis, Jerry Shannon, Mike Theodosis.

Honorary pallbearers will Fred Bush, Ted Moll and Markel Whittington, Cobb Gibbs and members of the Tupelo Rotary Club.

Visitation will follow the services in the Gathering Room at the First United Methodist Church.
