Charles Twitty

Tupelo- Richard Charles Twitty, 85, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born May 19, 1933 in Pontotoc County to Elmer and Connie Twitty and was raised in the Hurricane Community. He received both his bachelors and masters degrees from Mississippi State University and was a life-long avid Bulldog fan. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from MS Cooperative Extension Service after serving a number of years as a Lee County Agent. Following retirement, he pursued a second career as an Agricultural Consultant and Product Salesman. He was an active long-time member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Edna Stark Twitty; two sons, Richard Twitty and his wife, Lisa of Ramer, Tennessee and Russ Twitty and his wife, Rhonda of Madison; son-in-law, Chris Hester of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Mallory Holt and her husband, Nick, Madison Twitty, Hunter Twitty, Jackson Twitty, Reese Hester, Beck Hester and Hamp Hester; one great-grandchild, Keilyn Holt; one brother, William "Buddy" Twitty of New Albany; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Connie Twitty; sister, Pat Mooneyhan; and daughter, Ree Hester.

Services honoring his life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Rev. David Langerfield and Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the church.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Murry Coward, Scotty West, Ben Merriweather, Kirk Shelton, John Hines, Brad Mikels, Calvin Robinson, Tommy Brooks, Hamilton Smith, Ernest Gunter, Earl Crawford, Mike Warren and Shelton Shannon.
