Charles Strawn

Tupelo - CHARLES HUGHE STRAWN, 81, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born October 1, 1926, in Union County to G. F. and Onice Strawn. He served as a chef in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He married Bama Ree Faust on June 4, 1950. He retired from his sales career in 1988 after 38 years of service with Borden Ice Cream Company. He was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. A true Christian man who believed in serving the Lord, friendships, hard work and family. He was a loving father and grandfather. An avid story teller and harmonica player who took pride in playing the harmonica for his grandchildren

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Rooney, Rev Don McCain and Rev. Smith Whiteside officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Union County. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bama Ree Strawn; one son, Charles Kenny Strawn and his wife, Flo, of Port Gibson, Mississippi; two daughters, Reta Jo Doughty and husband, William, and Suyin Wiygul both of Tupelo; one sister, Joyce Crain
of Hernando; his grandchildren, Dr. Amanda Strawn Penny and husband, Ed, Lindsay McLean Strawn , Julie Marie Brown and husband, Edwin, David Nathaniel Grubbs and wife, Betsy, Elizabeth Faust Berthelot and husband, Eric, Shannon Doughty Grannon and husband, Stephen, William Evans Doughty Jr. and wife, Carole Ann, Jennifer Doughty McDonald and husband, Kerby, William Strawn Freeman and wife, Mandy, Jeffrey Scott Wiygul; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special caregivers, Lula Mae Patton, Dorothy Shannon and the staff at the Franks House.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, J.W. Strawn and a sister, Juanita Liddell.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, David Nathaniel Grubbs, William Strawn Freeman, William Evans Doughty Jr., Eric Michael Berthelot, Kerby Brian McDonald, Stephen Joseph Grannon, Edward Jamison Penny, Douglas Edwin Brown, Jr. and John Coleman Bacot.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Kilgore, Winford Hudson, G. W. Jobe, Ray Wilkinson, Jimmy Langford, Jimmy Langley, Jimmy Hunt, Billy Burks, Jack Cox, John Rasberry, Donald Hazel, David Andrews, Ken Stephens, Jerry Jordan and James Roy Reaves.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2008 at the funeral home, visitation Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Wesley United Methodist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 service time.
