CHARLES OWEN
Tupelo - Charles Sidney Owen, 72, died Sunday, January 14, 2007, at his residence after a brief illness. A Corinth native, he was born January 16, 1934 to the late Charlie and Effie Ethelee King Owen. He was a US Air Force veteran from 1953 to 1957, serving in England for much of that time. He was a self employed brick mason and builder. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed traveling extensively over the years. He will be lovingingly remembered by his family as the "World's Greatest Piddler," always working on various projects. He was dearly loved by his family and friends with whom he enjoyed spending his time. He was a life long member of the Church of Christ.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Ministers Earl Mitchell and Jerry Hickman officiating. Entombment will be in Lee Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Frances Hope Hickman Owen of Tupelo; two daughters, Molly Woodruff and husband, Hilry, and Beth Kelly and husband, Jeff, all of Tupelo; a brother, Nelson Owen and wife, June, of Merrillville, Ind.; one granddaughter, Megan Hope Woodruff.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Moses, Otis Hickman, Mitch Willis, Brian Hickman, David Hickman, and Jack T. Swann.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
