Saltillo - Charles R. Green, 86, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He lived most of his life in the Unity Community but had moved to the Beech Springs Community approximately 7 years ago to be closer to his family. He was a life-long member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church but attended the First United Methodist Church in Saltillo. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. In his younger years, he was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. In his later years his main pastime enjoyments were going to Hardees and then fellowshipping with his domino buddies. He proudly served his county in the U.S. Army until being medically discharged from the service.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Unity Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Corinne Young Green; one daughter, Lottie Cruber both of Beech Springs; one son, Johnny R. Green (Brenda) of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Dawn Hester (Don), Mandy Murff (Jim) and John Michael Green; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Garrett, Rivers, Emery, Montana and Macon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian Bedell and Alma Samantha Green; five brothers; two sisters; his son-in-law, Jimmy Cruber.
Pallbearers will be James Cates, Johnny Dye, Sonny Phillips, Sammy Rice, Wade Green and Don Hester
Honorary Pallbearers will be his domino buddies.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the funeral home.
