Asheboro, N.C. - CHARLES O'RUBEL EDWARDS, 82, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, N.C. after a brief illness. A Nettleton native, he was born April 7, 1925 to the late James Monroe and Zelma Cooper Edwards. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1943 until 1946 with an honorable discharge, serving in World War II. He married Eula Mae Sheffield November 2,1946. They lived in Cleveland until he retired and returned to Nettleton where they lived until 2006. He was in car body repair. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, studying the Bible and his family. He had lived in Asheboro, N.C. since the death of his beloved wife in 2006.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Rick Ball officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Rider of Nettleton and Peggy St. John and husband, Bill, of Esterbrook, Wy.; one son, Charles Edwards, Jr. and wife, Pattie, of Asheboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Todd Weeks and Paul Inmon of Nettleton, Pam Osburn of North Carolina, Barry Campbell and Monica Martinez of Wyoming, Patrice Sansing of Shannon, and Charles (Bo) Edwards of Cleveland; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Polly McCamey of Okolona and Florene Turmen of Nettleton; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Eula Mae Edwards; a grandson, Brian; seven brothers, and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
