Charlene Ray

CHARLENE NEWCOMB RAY Tupelo - Charlene Newcomb Ray, went to be with the Lord on May 29, 2015. Charlene passed peacefully at home while sleeping. She was struggling with a long time illness. Charlene was born on September 28, 1952 to Obie Newcomb and Pauline Johnson Newcomb in Hayti, Missouri. She went to Fulton High School and later graduated from Fulton Cosmetology School to become a hairdresser. Charlene was a born again Christian and took her faith very seriously. She was a member of The Church of Nazarene in Tupelo, Mississippi. In addition to being a hairdresser, Charlene worked at Coleman's BBQ, Marshall Durbin and Purnell Pride chicken processing centers until she became disabled. Charlene's had many hobbies including bingo with her friends, especially her Mom, Pauline, homemaking, gardening, canning, vegetables and fruits. She also loved sewing. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Charlene was a one of a kind person. She always put everyone's needs before her own and never turned her back on anyone in need, no matter how much or little she had. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Calvin Dewayne Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Keys Cemetery. Survivors include her soul mate and childhood sweetheart, Jimmy Gann; daughter, Medida Keopradit (Songka); son, Andy Ray ; grandchildren, Mason Keopradit and Alexis Ray all of Tupelo; three sisters, Martha Bailey of Shannon, Barbara McLarty of Brewer and Nancy Tucker of Tupelo; three brothers, Junior Newcomb (Patricia) of Tupelo, Dale Newcomb of Shannon, Cary Dean Newcomb (Judith) of Tupelo; and many nieces and nephews in which she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Obie and Pauline Newcomb and her sister, Opal Newcomb Page. Pallbearers include nephews, Robby, Michael and Clay Newcomb and Chris, Terry and Jerry Page. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015and noon until service time Saturday June 6, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
