Cecil Spearman

January 17, 1918 — July 29, 2010

Shannon - Cecil Edward Spearman, 91, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after an extended illness. A native of Itawamba County, he was born January 17, 1918 to Oscar and Maude Sanderson Spearman. He was retired from Air Cap Industries after 30 years of service as a mechanic. A US Army veteran of World War II, he served 635 days in combat in the South Pacific. He loved gardening, fishing, and his dogs, Baby and Barbie Elvis. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Jim Holcomb and Rev. Jerry Grammer officiating. Burial will be in Priceville Cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca McCarley (Frank) of Shannon; his son, Jackie D. Spearman (Gail) of Belden; one sister, Clytee Wood of Belden; one brother, Virgil Spearman of Shannon; five grandchildren, Sherry Bentley (Chris) of Shannon, Ashley Loveless (Curtis) of Tupelo, Sandra Tedford of Bentonville, Ark., Stacy Spearman (Jennifer) of Mooreville, and Shae Spearman of Birmingham, Ala.; and eight great-grandchildren, Abbie Bentley, Skyler Loveless, Drew Moses, Blake Moses, Jet Hooper, Rob Moses, Jack Thomas Spearman, and Sydney Spearman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jewel Spearman who died March 2, 2009; his son, Thomas Wade Spearman who died January 15, 2001; one sister and five brothers.

Pallbearers will be Drew Moses, Stacy Spearman, Curtis Loveless, Chris Bentley, Blake Moses, Kevin Coker.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Moses, Rob Moses, Jack Thomas Spearman, Skyler Loveless, and Jet Hooper.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
