CARMEN CUMBIE
Tupelo - CARMEN EDWINA CUMBIE, 90, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Tupelo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. She was born November 1, 1916 in Union to the late John Wesley and Susan Ella Fancher Cooper. She was the owner and operator of Carmen's Beauty Salon for many years. She was known for her volunteer work in the church and nursing homes, remaining very active until her health failed. She was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2007 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Mike Hicks officiating. Graveside services will be in 2 p.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens in Hope, Ark.
Survivors include her nephew, Paul Clary and wife, Mary Jane, of Memphis; two great-nephews, Rev. Charles Clary of Columbia, S.C. and Rev. Chip Clary of Sinapore; three great-nieces, Carlyn Reynolds, Donna Clary, and Kellye Clary, all of Memphis; two great-great-nieces and nephews, Brandon and Kristen; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Annie Zieman, Edyth Clary, and Bernice Miller; and four brothers, Ardell Cooper, Fancher Cooper, Thurston Cooper, and Leonard Cooper.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
