Richmond - CARL RICHARD BASS, 84, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born December 3, 1923 in the Andrews Chapel Community to the late Phillip and Olga Hussey Bass. He was a longtime resident of the Richmond Community. In 1943, he graduated from Plantersville High School and then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chawawa during World War II. He worked 36 years for Daybrite Lighting, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed bird hunting with his brothers, nephews, and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. John McAlister and Rev. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Wilma Dean Sheffield Bass of Fulton; his son, Terry Bass and wife, Debbie, of Parkville, Mo.; his grandson, Brian Bass and wife, Wendy, of Sherwood, Ark.; two sisters, Thelma Young of Plantersville and Winnie Estes of Plantersville; two brothers, Lowery Bass and wife, Patsy, of Tupelo and Douglas Bass of Oxford; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe Bass and Thomas Bass.
Visitation will continue Thursday at the funeral home.
