Macedonia - Calvin Holloway, 85, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Centerville native and lifelong resident of the Macedonia Community, he was born May 30, 1924, to William Riley and Mattie Pugh Holloway. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. Earlier in his life, he worked a number of years at Daybrite but most of his working life was spent as a self employed licensed electrician and plumber. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his familiy. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. David Walters and Rev. Billy Foster officiating. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Bolen Holloway of Macedonia; two sons, David Holloway of Tupelo and Terry Holloway (Beverly) of Macedonia; one sister, Emma Stanford of Memphis; four grandchildren, Angie Voyles (Anthony) of Kirkville, Rechelle Holloway of Mantachie, Greg Holloway of Saltillo, and Jason Holloway (Chelsea)of Blue Springs; two great grandchildren, Chip Ausbern of Nettleton and Braxton Voyles of Kirkville; and a special friend, Lois Holloway of Saltillo; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Bertha Towery, Flossie Crowder, Magalene Marks, Carus Booker, and Fleta Mae Warren .
Pallbearers will be Anthony Voyles, Chip Ausbern, Michael Talbot, Barry Bolen, Larry, Ricky, Tommy, and Roger Coker.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
