Auburn - Burie Stevens, 81, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A Tremont native, she was born March 19, 1927 to Houston T. and Alva Dewdrop Gentry Miller. She was a retired seamstress, working 19 years for Blue Bell Manufacturing and four years for Prentiss Manufacturing. Growing up, she enjoyed playing basketball. She was married to A.W. Stevens. She enjoyed working in her flowers, canning vegetables for her family, and the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earlier in her life she also enjoyed traveling, attending ballgames, field trips and movies. She was a member of the Church of God.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Ray Bennett and Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Fellowship Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 65 years, A.W. Stevens; two sons, William Gerald Stevens and wife, Sandra, and Jimmy Dale Stevens and wife, Betty, all of Saltillo; one brother, H.T. Miller, Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Golden; five grandchildren, Paul Cummins, Elizabeth Campbell, Jimmy Dale Stevens, Jr., Gail Stevens and Wade Stevens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elijah Fay Miller and Ellis T. Miller; two sisters, Rae Harris and Ann Hill; and a grandson, Gerald Stevens, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Miller, Bradley Miller, Charlie Pyle, Michael Norris, Wade Stevens, Stewart Livingston, Jason Livingston, and Jeff Rayburn.
Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Saltillo funeral home.
