Buddy Coggins
Saltillo- Charles Archie “Buddy” Coggins, 66, died Wednesday July 19, 2017 at the North Mississippi Medical Center. Buddy was born December 26, 1950 to Archie and Charlotte Horton Coggins in Baldwyn. He was raised in the Unity Community. In 1968, he graduated from Saltillo High School, where he played every sport available. Buddy joined the United States Navy in 1970 and served his country for six years, stationed with Attack/Fighter Squadron 43 home ported in Naval Air Station, Oceana, Virginia and served aboard the USS Howard W. Gilmore home ported in La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy before returning home to serve in the National Guard.
On July 14, 1972, Buddy married Marie “Nell” Freeman and together had three children, Renee, Brad and Brandy. During his children’s younger years, he coached multiple sports, including softball and baseball. Buddy was a family man who especially loved his grandchildren and dogs. For 22 years, Buddy was a car salesman before switching over the real estate; he has been a real estate agent for Caldwell Banker for over 20 years. In 2014, Buddy was chosen as Realtor of the Year for Coldwell Banker by his fellow Realtors. Buddy was an avid Ole Miss and Yankee’s fan. He and his wife, Nell, are members of First United Methodist Church in Saltillo.
Visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo.
Services honoring Buddy’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Unity Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nell Coggins of Saltillo; mother, Charlotte Coggins of Saltillo; three children, Renee Sandlin (Johnny) of Saltillo, Brad Coggins (Ragan) of Guntown and Brandy Coggins of Saltillo; five grandchildren, Kennedy Sandlin, Katelyn Sandlin, Justin Sandlin, Gray Coggins and Mara Coggins; one sister, Peggy Smith (Mike) of Saltillo; two sisters-in-law, Ramona Williams (Jackie) of Tupelo and Dianne Thompson (Gary) of Dothan, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Coggins and grandparents, Charlie and Ervie Horton and Harley and Zora Coggins.
Pallbearers will be Brad Coggins, Justin Sandlin, Jay Williams, Wesley Williams, Mike Smith and Johnny Sandlin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Thompson and Jackie Williams.
