Brett Burks

BRETT BURKS Saltillo - Brett Burks, 44, passed away, Monday, July 7, 2014, at his Saltillo residence after an extended illness. A Tupelo native, he was born December 11, 1969 to Billy W. and Patty Bass Burks. A 1987 graduate of Tupelo High School, he then went on to Northeast Community College and Hinds Community College. Brett was an avid Ole Miss fan. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and feeding the many hummingbirds in his backyard. Brett was a very loyal friend, husband, and father. He coached his son's soccer team for several years. He never missed any of his son's many sports games. He was adored by his family. He was an amazing father who loved his children more than anything. Brett was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Forrest Sheffield, Rev. Terry Ledbetter and Rev. David Langerfeld officiating. Graveside services to follow at Saltillo Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of almost 14 years, Chris Johnson Burks of Saltillo; two sons, Wesley Austin Burks and Bryson Brett Burks both of Saltillo; his parents, Billy and Patty Burks of Tupelo; two brothers, Greg Burks (Leslie) of Tupelo and Barry Burks (Jane) of Ridgeland; two nephews, Taylor Burks of Tupelo and Andrew Burks of Ridgeland and two nieces, Haley Burks of Jackson and Emily Burks of Ridgeland; and many cousins. Pallbearers will be Wesley Burks, Bryson Burks, Greg Burks, Barry Burks, Scott Malone, Brent Quartaro, Bubba Franks Brent Carey, Andy Manning and Ronnie Johnson. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Harrisburg Baptist Church. Brett, an organ donation recipient, was a passionate promoter of organ and tissue donations and in his memory the family asked all who can to sign up for the organ and tissue donation program.
