BOBBYE FRANKS JONES

Tupelo - Bobbye Franks Jones, 82, died Sat., Feb. 1, after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 26, 1931, in the Auburn Community to William Tracy and Luna Duvall Franks.

She moved to Tupelo at an early age and attended Church Street Elementary, Milam Jr. High, Tupelo High School and Calvary Baptist Church.

Following high school graduation, she attended Blue Mountain College and Itawamba Junior College. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education.

She started her 20-year teaching career at Itawamba Junior College in 1953, then taught at Gulf Coast Junior College, Gulfport High School, University of Mississippi Extension classes, Tupelo High School, with last 13 years back at Itawamba as an instructor of economics and business law.

Starting in 1983, she served 30 years as a Northern District Fiscal Administrator for the Mississippi Department of Transportation and retired in August

Services will be at 1 p.m. on Tues., Feb. 4, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Tupelo Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 58 years, Ben D. and two daughters, Becky (Steve) West of Memphis, TN and Ginger (Joe) Clegg of Round Rock, TX, grandson Ben West of Houston, TX, granddaughter Taylor West of Birmingham, AL and sister Geraldine Franks Sheffield of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pall bearers will be Mitch Caver, Kenneth Donahue and Don Roberts (former co-workers at the Mississippi Dept. of Transportation) and Andy Lawhon, Bob Sheffield and Mike Sheffield (her nephews).

Honorary pall bearers are Darrell Clock, Jimmy Shumpert and former and current employees of the Mississippi Dept. of Transportation.

Bobbye loved helping her grandchildren with their school projects, cheering on the Ole Miss Rebels and spending time at Lake Piomingo.

She loved the 13 years of family life living on the Itawamba Junior College campus in Fulton from 1964 to 1976 where she taught and her husband coached at the high school and junior college. Also, during that time her husband owned and operated The Wigwam Restaurant, across from the college campus, and Bobbye ran the women's clothing store, 212 Main.

While in Fulton, she was an active member of the Prairie Girl Scout Council serving several years as a troop leader, a member and president of the Fulton Civic Club, served on the Board of the Mississippi Federated Women's Club and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. Pegues.
