Bob Jones

Tupelo - Robert Edward Bob Jones, Sr, 89, died Saturday, January 24, 2009, at his residence after a brief illness. A Holmes County native, he was born November 28, 1919 to Eugene and Daisy Meeks Jones. He moved to Lee County in 1982 to be near his family. He retired after 39 years of service as an engineer with Southern Natural Gas Company. He was a member of Chesterville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Chesterville Baptist Church with Rev. Sammy Coker officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. at the Quite Ridge Cemetery in Pickens, Mississippi. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, William Marlow Pittman, Jr. and wife, Mittie of Ruleville, Mississippi and Don Pittman and wife, Dianne, of Pontotoc; one daughter, Dianne P. Hale of Tupelo; four grandaughters, Kristen Pittman of Pontotoc, Leah Beth Murphy of Starkville Julie Barham of Avon, Mississippi and Stephanie Holland of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Tud Pittman of Pontotoc and Stephen Hale of Starkville; seven great grandchildren; four nephews, Wiley Fisher, Jr., Walter Fisher, Ricky Fisher and Russell Fisher.

He was preceded in death by wives, Gladys DeLoach Jones and Margaret McDonald Jones; one son, Bobby Jones Jr.; his parents; two sisters, Gene Fisher and Dorothy Burrell.

Pallbearers will be Tud Pittman, Stephen Hale, Don Pittman III, Ken Rackley, George Shelton and Doug Johnson.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Howard Holt.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at the funeral home and 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the church.
