BOB BENNETT Tupelo - Bobby Gene Bennett (Bubba), 80, died Thursday, July 22, 2015 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS of natural causes. Born on July 23, 1934 in Saltillo, the son of William Trannie and Jessie Lee Bennett, he was a lifelong resident of the area. In his early years, Mr. Bennett was a radio operator in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. After an honorable discharged, he began working for Murdock Acceptance Corporation then Southwest Savings and Loan in Natchez, MS. Later he was owner of Tupelo Muffler Mart for 30 years as well as owner of Video Palace of Tupelo. Mr. Bennett was a member of Gloster Street Church of Christ; enjoyed flying, sailing, boating and all adventurous sports. He leaves his daughter, Desha Lee Cruse; sons Bobby Gene Bennett Jr. (Bob) and Joseph Bowen Bennett (Jody); grandsons Blake Timothy Bennett and Brett Thomas Bennett; sister Dale Bennett Pate and brother-in-law Bruce Pate; son-in-law Neil Cruse and daughters-in-law Cari Bennett and Laura Bennett; nephews Mike and Mark Harrison; and the mother of his children Patsy Bennett, as well as and many close friends. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Betty Jo Bennett Harrison, brother in law Ralph Harrison, and nephew Matt Harrison. A memorial service will be held July 25, 2015 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and memorial service at 12:00 p.m.
