Belden - Blanche Young Roper, 82, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Rosewood Residence after an extended illness. She was born October 17, 1927, to Tommy and Luna Young. She grew up in the Unity Community of Lee County and graduated from Saltillo High School. She lived in the Belden Community for the past 50 years and was a longtime member of Belden Baptist Church. She retired from the Lee County School System after 25 years of service. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Don Baggett officiating, a longtime pastor and friend. Burial will be in Belden Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Walter Carol (W.C.) Roper of Belden; one son, C.J. (Junior) Roper and wife, Kaye Gibson Roper; three grandchildren, Ron Roper and wife, Tara Thomas Roper, Ryan Roper and wife, Shelley Cartwright Roper, and Kaycee Roper Burrell and husband, Benjamin Burrell; and three great-grandchildren, Lily Mayo Roper, Thomas Gibson Roper, and Sadie Frances Roper, all of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Luna Young, an infant son, Timothy Roper, and her two brothers, Kenneth Young and Carl Young.
Pallbearers will be Ron Roper, Ryan Roper, Benjamin Burrell, Reuben Greer, Jerry Webb, and Mike Gibson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Sunshine Sunday School Class of Belden Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
The family appreciates all of the thoughts, prayers, and countless visits of loved ones and friends during her stay at Rosewood Residence, which made Memaws journey home much easier for us all. We would also like to extend our love and gratitude to each of her caregivers at Rosewood.
