Tupelo - BILLY J. STOW, 72, died Monday, March 26, 2007, at his residence after an extended illness. He was an active member of Beech Springs Freewill Baptist Church. He was born June 20, 1934, in Cooter, Missouri. He was the son of the late August (Bud) and Vernie Dunn Stow and had eight brothers and one sister, all of whom preceded him in death. At age 17, he joined the US Air Force and served for 20 years, retiring as Tech Sergeant. While serving his country he was stationed in Alaska, Guam, Arizona, Vietnam, The Philippines, North Dakota, and Nebraska, just to name a few. After retirement from the Air Force, he moved to the Tupelo area and was employed by Red Kap Industries for several years.

He married the former Sarah Tyra Jones, March 19, 1987. She was his help mate, traveling companion and his best friend. After they both retired, he enjoyed working with flowers in his yard, traveling and camping, especially in the Western United States. He also loved an afternoon of fishing with a grandson or watching Fox News and discussing politics. All of his grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Earl Langley and Bro. Dennis Kizzire, Sr. officiating. Entombment with full military honors will be in Lee Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah T. Stow. He was a wonderful and caring father to seven children: Barry Hall of San Antonio, Tex., Angela McAllister (Randall) of Berryvile, Ark., Jody Crone (Steve) of Hot Springs, Ark., Patrick Stow of Tupelo, Tonya Jones Kelly (Sam) of Huntsville, Ala., Tammi Jones Coggins (Nickey) of Tupelo, and Tina Jones West (Doug) of Saltillo; a special daughter-in-law, Maria Hall of Canyon Lake, Tex; his father and mother-in-law, Clovis and Lodeska Tyra of Tupelo, his sister-in-law, Brenda Wright (Jeff) of Olive Branch; brother-in-law, Don Tyra (Patsy) of Mantachie; 22 grandchildren, Amy Hall Lowry (Ben) of Sicily, Italy, Billy Hall and Melody Hall of San Antonio, Tex., Steven Carmack (Wendy) of San Jose, Calif., Bryan Carmack of Biloxi, Matthew Carmack of Biloxi, Aleaha Smith (Nick) of Choteau, Okla., Alysa McAllister of Berryville, Ark., Heather Henderson of Hot Springs, Ark., Haley Halbrook of Hot Springs, Ark., Justin Jones of Hot Springs, Ark., Logan Westbrooke Stow of Durango, Col., Andrew Kelly and Samantha Kelly of Huntsville, Ala., Zack Coggins of Tupelo, Sarah Kay Millican of Tupelo, Nicholas Coggins of Tupelo, Heather West of Mooreville, Chris West of Saltillo, Thad Lewis (Channing) of Saltillo, Harrison West and Hannah West of Saltillo; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Tyra, Andy Tyra, Jeffery Wright II, Thad Lewis, Zack Coggins, and Gene Knight.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
