BILLY W. SPENCER Tupelo - Billy W. Spencer, 81, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Tupelo. He was born April 17, 1933, in Mississippi to Hurschel and Lillian Champion Spencer. A veteran, he served in the United States Army during the 1950's and was stationed in Germany. He was a long time employee of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors. An avid fisherman, he was known to spend all day fishing especially when the crappie were biting. Dominoes, woodworking, and cooking were a few of his favorite hobbies. He was a member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for over thirty-years and served as a deacon for many years. He loved his family and friends and cherished time spent with them. A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Dina Jo Spencer of Tupelo; one daughter, Sandra Spengler (Steve) of Brandon; one son, Terry Spencer (Tina) of Tupelo; one granddaughter, Sarah Compton (Will) of Arlington, Virginia; three grandsons, Sam Spengler of Brandon and Grant and Peyton Spencer both of Tupelo; one great-grandson, John Owen Compton of Arlington, Virginia and one sister, Kay Stacy (Edward) of Marietta. He was preceded in death by his parents. Honorary pallbearers will be Len Pegues, Willis Swain, Harold Ivy, Steve Bramlett, Jack Leslie, Travis Avent, Louidean Ball, Earnest Gunter, Joe Petty, Billy Langford, Melvin Harris, Joe Grissom and his grandsons, Grant Spencer, Peyton Spencer and Sam Spengler.
