Saltillo - Billy Richard ?Bill? Cherry, 75, died Friday, December 7, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. A native of the Birmingham Ridge Community, he was born April 9, 1937 to G. R. and Mittie Miller Cherry. He had lived most of his adult life in Saltillo where he was a current member of Saltillo First United Methodist Church and a former member and deacon at Saltillo First Baptist Church. Earlier in his life, Bill had served with the Mississippi Army National Guard. He served as Alderman for the City of Saltillo for thirteen years. He was employed at Tire Town of Tupelo for thirty-two years and owner for five years. He was instrumental in organizing the first Saltillo High School Football Booster Club which he served as President. He also had served as President of the Saltillo Civitan Club and was a member of Saltillo Men?s Club.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012 at The First United Methodist Church in Saltillo with Rev. Tim Green and Dr. Ken Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Janis Franks Cherry; two sons, Craig Cherry (Angela) of Mooreville and Dave Cherry (Debbie) of New Albany; five grandchildren, Brandon and Lauren Cherry of Tupelo, Will, Ben, and Matt Cherry of New Albany ; one niece, Bebe Roper Stewart (Clay) of Saltillo; a brother-in-law, Fred Franks of Saltillo; a sister-in-law, Faye Pyle of Hamilton, Al and cousins, Brenda Gibbons of Saltillo, Sara Miller Simmons of Tupelo and Grady Miller of Tuscallosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Roper.

Pallbearers will be Max Stephens, Gil Simmons, Tommy Rock, Al Rice, Jimmy Long, W.K.Webb, Clyde Neaves and Pat Carr.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the funeral home.
