BILLY GENE MORRIS
Fulton " Billy Gene Bill Morris, 71, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at his residence after an extended illness. A Marietta native, he was born January 13, 1936 to the late Jock Wheeler and Nola Hood Morris. He attended school in Itawamba County. He moved to Zion, Illinois in 1956 where he met his life's sole mate, Joan Elaine Morris who preceded him in death, December 12, 2005. He begin working for Savings Oil in May of 1964. He served the company in many capacities including attendant, manager, supervisor, truck dispatcher, safety manager, and auditor until retiring in December of 2004. He served as a company consultant until his death. His passion in life was his family and the Savings Oil Family he worked with for so many years. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Phillip Wood, Rev. Jason Marlon and Rev. Jack Gray officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Itawamba County.
Survivors include three daughters, Leslie McDonald and her husband, Phillip, of Plantersville, Star Poppelreiter of Saltillo, and Mary Lynn Pierce and her husband, Jerry, of Fulton; one son, Michael G. Morris and his wife, Renee of Tupelo; three sisters, Letha Baxter of Zion, Illinois, Earner Wilemon and her husband, Jack, of Tupelo, Margaret Stegall of Fulton; one brother, Wilson Morris and his wife, Irene, of Fulton; six grandsons, James Poteet, of Fulton, Michael Simmons of Shannon, Jonethan Morris of Tupelo, Justin Sullivan of Saltillo, Scottie Poteet and his wife, Odean, of Tupelo, Jeremy Morris of Tupelo; three granddaughters, Jordan Popplreiter of Saltillo, Selena Pierce of Fulton, and Dakota Pierce of Fulton; two great grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver, Teresa Wood.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48, Joan Elaine Morris, his parents; his brothers, C. L. (Chek) Morris, R. E. (Cotton) Morris; two sons-in-law, Billy Poteet, and George Poppelreiter..
Pallbearers will be James Poteet, Michael Simmons, Scottie Poteet, Jonethan Morris, Justin Sullivan, and Jeremy Morris
Honorary Pallbearers will be H. C. Dodge, Jr, Bobby Dodge, and all past and current employees of Savings Oil Company.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2007.
