REV. BILLY MITCHELL LANGLEY Tupelo - Bro. Billy Mitchell Langley, 84, died Friday, February 20, 2015, at Landmark Community Assisted Living. He was born May 10, 1930, to Swiss T. and Fannie Mae McKinney Langley. After graduating from Tupelo High School, Billy enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served his country for 7 years. He married M. Katherine Freeman of Endville in a joint ceremony with Floyd & Christine Freeman Frances. He graduated from Temple Baptist Seminary in Chattanooga, TN. Rev. Langley lived a life of dedication serving his church and community. He loved Gospel Music and it was not unusual for him to burst into song, with his beautiful tenor voice, in the middle of his sermon. All who knew him knew that he was a loving man after God's own heart. Rev. Billy Langley was a Southern Baptist Minister who served at Brewer Baptist Church, Wheeler Baptist Church, West Corinth Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Fulton, Tishomingo Baptist Church, Jericho Baptist Church, and Old Union Baptist Church. He served as interim pastor at other churches on several occasions. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church in Shannon where he served as pastor for 12 years prior to his retirement in February 2014. Rev. Langley was also a long-time well-liked respected insurance agent with W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev Burt Harper and Rev Jason Dukes officiating. His son-in-law Dr. David Greenhaw will deliver the eulogy. Private burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00pm-5:00 p.m. and Monday at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Survivors include his children, Beverly Greenhaw (Dr. David), Paul Langley (Angie) both of Booneville, David Langley (Traci) of Tupelo and Amy Green (Mark) of Killen, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Bart Greenhaw (Anita) of Guntown, Leigh Smith (Chad) of Covington, TN, Dr Brad Greenhaw (Ashleigh) of Pittsburgh, PA, Zach Langley (Lindsey) of Amory, Cody Langley (Amber) of Booneville, Phoebe Hewitt (Tommy) of Tupelo, and Kyle Ramage of Albany, GA; eleven great-grandchildren, Maddie Smith, Benjamin Smith, Christopher Smith, Jack Dawson Langley, Tripp Langley, Kathryn Ramage, Landry Greenhaw, Abbey Langley, Nate Langley, Sophie Greenhaw, and Andy Hewitt; one sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Frost (Rufus) of Tupelo and one brother-in-law, Garrel Mack "Doc" Freeman (Nancy) of Belden; and a very special friend, Barbara Garland of Tupelo. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, M. Katherine Freeman Langley, his parents, and a baby sister. His grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and their wives of Old Union Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Old Union Baptist Church Building Fund, 113 CR 455, Shannon, MS 38868.
