Billy Herring

Saltillo - Billy Morris Herring, 80, died Monday, August 31, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A native and lifelong resident of Saltillo, he was born December 2, 1934 to Edgar Thurman and Johnnie Brock Herring. Earlier in his life, he was stationed in Germany while serving his country in the United States Army. After 42 years of failthful service, he retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Billy loved spending time outdoors and when he was able enjoyed both hunting and fishing. For many years, he enjoyed visisting with frineds under the pavilion at Lake Lamar Bruce. He was infact noted for witnessing the original construction in the early 1960's of what was then known as Lake Lee as well as the rebuilding of Lake Lamar Bruce just in the past few years. Most notably, Billy was known for his generosity in handing out two dollar bills to his grandchildren and the many children he had the pleasure to meet throughout the years. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Rex Yancey and Rev. Chuck Herring officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Mattie Sue Herring of Saltillo; two daughters, Susan Duncan (Ricky) of Dorsey and Ginger Kitchen of Saltillo; one son, Terry Herring (Lori) of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Justin Kitchen, Madison Kitchen, Jay Duncan and Tyler Herring; two great grandchildren, Sarah Grace Kitchen and Jagger Beau Duncan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James "Pete" Herring and Donald "Gene" Herring. Pallbearers will be Justin and Madison Kitchen, Jay Duncan, Tyler, Richard and Tom Herring and Andy Spradling Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the funeral home.
