BILLIE SUE McCullough Billie Sue Barnes McCullough, 83 passed from her earthly home into the arms of Jesus at 12:02 a.m. on February 19, 2015 at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit in Tupelo, MS. She was born August 6, 1931, in Lee County where she was a life-long resident. She was the daughter of William (Bill) Barnes and Myrtis Carr Barnes. She was a graduate of Saltillo High School. She began her career as secretary for Ross Lawhorn in the Veterans Administration office in the court house. Then she became a Deputy Court Clerk in the Lee County Circuit Clerks Office where she served under Faye Estes, Mildred Pierce, and Mary Faye Guin for 30 years. She was a devoted member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church for over 60 years serving in different leadership roles whenever needed. Services will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Street Chapel of the W.E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo, MS. Rev Donnie Riley and Rev Stanley Huddleston will be officiating. She was a caring, devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her five great grands brought many hours of joy into her life. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her pot luck (chicken and dressing). She enjoyed shopping and was so excited to find out that The Mall at Barnes Crossing was named after her grandfather. Grandpa Barnes was the first president of the Board of Supervisors in Lee County. Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Edge (Buddy) of Baldwyn; one grandson, Benjy Edge (Lori) of Hernando, MS; one granddaughter, Leah Justice (Dr Allen) of Saltillo; 5 great grandchildren, Bailey Edge, MSU-Starkville; Riley Grace Edge and Connor Edge of Hernando; Katelyn Justice and Preston Justice of Saltillo; several nieces and nephews; and her devoted friend, J.Z. McCormick of Tupelo. She was preceded in death by her faithful beloved husband, J.T. McCullough; her parents, Bill and Myrtis Barnes; two sisters, Lula Lea Scruggs (Elton) and Poll Scruggs (Tommy); brother, Buddy Barnes (Ruth); and two nephews, Eddie Barnes and Danny Scruggs. Pallbearers will be Kyle Scruggs, Ronnie Barnes, Terry Scruggs, Andy Barnes, John McGaugh, and John Wiggington. Honorary pallbearers will be the Circuit Clerk staff, Connie Kelley, Lue Jean Johnson, Carol Horton, Kim Loyd, and Joyce Loftin. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time, Saturday, February 21, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
